Ferco’s Hybrid Insulated Fire Rated Shutter is a double curtain, dual tracked and dual shafted hybrid shutter, comprising a fire rated steel shutter with ceramic wool insulation on one track, and a 30mm thick fire rated fabric on the other, designed to provide a high insulation value. To provide additional insulation value without increasing with weight of the shutter or additional load on the build-ing structure, an air gap of 350mm separates the two cur-tains. With each curtain layer having its own motor running in-dependently from each other but synchronously, Ferco’s Hybrid Insulated Shutter is capable of providing a 4 hour.

WHY DO YOU NEED AN INSULATED FIRE RATED SHUTTER OR CURTAIN?In a scenario that involves a fire and when steel fire rated shutters are deployed, they effectively create a barrier to prevent the spread of fire. However, under intense heat and flames, the surface of the shutter that is not exposed to the fire, glows and turns red hot. This radiation of heat could ignite materials on the other side of the shutter, allowing the flame to spread. It also prevents the safe passage of people on the other side of the fire, thus negating its very purpose.Ferco’s Insulated Curtain is designed to reduce the heat radiation on the other side of the fire, thus preventing the spread of the fire and creating a safe  passageway for people to escape.

Horizontal fire rated roller shutters are ideal systems to protect escalators, staircases, skylights and ceiling openings. This reduces the requirement for expensive SHEVS systems or multiple vertical fire protection devices across many floors. A variety of shutters are available, including galvanized steel, stainless steel SUS 316 and SUS 304, and single or double skin slat designs. A horizontal fire-rated shutter is compliant with BS 476 Part 22 and SS 489 and provides a 4-hour fire rating.

Building fire safety systems require horizontal fire rated shutters to control the spread of fire, heat, and smoke. By creating vertical compartments, these shutters separate various levels of a structure, acting as a barrier to prevent these harmful elements from entering. 

For activation of the horizontal fire shutters is triggered by a fire alarm signal, which closes the shutter under power. The shutter box location should have an emergency power source, and a 24V DC, 400mA, normally open fire alarm signal must be present. If a voltage-free fire alarm signal is used, a fire alarm signal conversion panel will be provided as needed. Larger sizes can be provided upon consultation, with a maximum size of 5.5m (w) x 20m (l) in a single panel. 

The shutter curtain is made of 72mm pitch galvanised steel slats that have been cold rolled into single or double skin forms, interlocked for strength, and the edges have been cut off to secure their axial. These shutters come with a 4-hour fire rating and are compliant with BS 476 Pt 22 and SS 489 standards.
